Sticky vs Top vs Bottom Announcement Bars: Which Converts Best on Shopify?

There are three viable placements for an announcement bar on Shopify: at the top of the page above your header, fixed to the bottom of the viewport, or dropped inline into a specific section of a template. Each has a different conversion signature, and the right pick depends on what the bar is trying to do.

Top placement — for evergreen brand messages

The default. Sits flush at the very top of the page, above your header. Best for evergreen promos (free shipping over $50, new arrivals weekly, store-wide announcements) where you want every visitor to see the message on first paint. PulseBar's free plan supports top placement.

Bottom placement — for sticky reminders

Fixed to the bottom of the viewport with high z-index. Stays visible as the visitor scrolls. Best for cart-page nudges (“You're $12 away from free shipping”), social proof (“500+ orders today”), or persistent CTAs. PulseBar's bottom placement is available on Pro and Advanced.

Inline section placement — for surgical control

The Pulse Bar (section) block (Advanced) lets you drop a bar inside any specific theme section — above a collection grid, below a product gallery, or anywhere the theme editor exposes a section. Best for product-page-only banners (“Free gift with every order of this collection”) or collection-hero promos.

Run more than one bar

Pro lets you run up to 5 active bars at once, Advanced up to 1,000. A top bar for the sitewide free-shipping message, a bottom bar for the cart-page nudge, and an inline bar above your bestsellers — all three composing into one merchandising layer.

Theme z-index conflicts

Some themes set their sticky header z-index aggressively. PulseBar's storefront script auto-detects and overrides, but if you're on a heavily customized theme and the bar looks hidden, check the App Embeds settings — the bar's stacking is exposed there.
