The Black Friday Banner Playbook for Shopify
Black Friday is won in October. By the time the weekend hits, your bars should already be scheduled and your code chips should already be tested on mobile. This playbook is the four-phase rollout we walk every PulseBar Advanced merchant through — pre-launch, doorbuster, mid-weekend rotation, and post-sale wind-down.
Phase 1: Pre-launch (Nov 1 – Nov 23)
Apply the Newsletter Capture sample with copy like “Black Friday early access — drop your email.” Enable inline email capture, sync to Klaviyo or Shopify Email. The post-subscribe discount code reveal makes the freebie feel like a first-purchase coupon. Build the list now, sell to it later.
Phase 2: Doorbuster launch (Nov 24, midnight)
Schedule the Black Friday Mega Sale sample to activate at 23:59 EST on Thursday. “BLACK FRIDAY — Up to 80% OFF. Today only.” Countdown timer enabled, ticking to your scheduled end date. Black + gold (the Black Friday Blitz template) signals premium-aggressive.
Phase 3: Mid-weekend rotation (Nov 25 – Nov 27)
Switch to the slider bar type. Rotate three messages: “Free shipping over $50” → “30% off everything — code BFCM30” → “Most popular: deals end Sunday.” Six-second interval, smooth fade transitions, dot indicators auto-styled to your text color.
Phase 4: Cyber Monday handoff (Nov 28)
Schedule a Cyber Monday Tech Deals bar to take over at midnight Sunday. “Cyber Monday is LIVE — subscribe for 30% off, code CYBER30.” Email capture + code reveal combo.
iOS Safari quirks (font scaling, viewport unit interpretation) burn a surprising number of stores every BFCM. Don't trust simulators — pull out a real device and confirm the countdown digits don't crop and the discount code chip is tappable with a thumb.
Launch-week checklist
- Schedule countdown to activate at 23:59 EST Thursday
- Create slider rotation: shipping, discount, scarcity
- Set per-device variants for mobile (shorter copy fits better)
- Schedule auto-replace bar for post-sale (“Sale ends Tuesday”)
- Test discount code chip on real mobile devices
- Confirm inline email capture syncs to your ESP in real time
- Set page targeting if you want different bars on /cart vs site-wide

Don't forget the wind-down
Schedule a “Sale ends Tuesday” bar to take over the moment BFCM proper ends. The Cyber Monday Tech Deals or Weekend Countdown samples work well as scheduled wind-down messaging. Keep urgency live without faking it.
