Free Shipping Bars That Actually Lift AOV (8 Real Examples)

Free shipping bars are the single most-installed announcement bar pattern on Shopify — and for good reason. Shoppers spend more when they're $15 away from free shipping than when they're already over the threshold. The trick is communicating the offer in the right place, with the right phrasing, and against the right number.

1. The cart-only free shipping nudge

Target /cart only with the bar “You're $15 away from free shipping — keep shopping.” Set page targeting to /cart in PulseBar (page-targeting field accepts comma-separated wildcards). The bar only renders on the cart page, exactly when the visitor is most price-conscious. This is the single highest-ROI announcement bar use case PulseBar ships a sample for it.

2. The sitewide free shipping promo

“Free shipping on orders over $50.” Apply the Free Shipping Promo sample inside PulseBar. Set targeting to all pages. Classic, evergreen, low-pressure.

3. The threshold-explicit bar

“Spend $50 — ship free. Spend $100 — get a free gift.” Use the slider type to rotate between two messages. Stack the threshold ladder so shoppers see both incentives.

4. The country-specific bar

If you ship differently to different countries, run device-specific copy or schedule different bars for different campaigns. PulseBar's per-device toggles and scheduling cover most market-specific cases.

5. The countdown-paired free shipping bar

“Free shipping ends at midnight — 02:14:36.” Toggle on the countdown feature (Pro and Advanced), set the bar's end date to midnight, and the countdown reads from the schedule automatically.

6. The free shipping + code combo

“Free shipping over $40 + 10% off — code WELCOME10.” Enable the discount code chip alongside the bar copy. One-click copy to clipboard, chip flashes “Copied!” for two seconds.

7. The eco-shipping bar

“Free carbon-neutral shipping over $60.” Use the Forest Promo template — deep green, conscious-brand feel — paired with a sustainability-page CTA.

8. The post-subscribe shipping unlock

Combine inline email capture with the discount code feature. When a visitor subscribes, the bar reveals a free-shipping code automatically. List growth + cart-page lift in the same surface.

Lead with value, not cost

“You're $12 away from free shipping” outperforms “Spend $50 for free shipping” because the first frames progress, the second frames cost. We covered the full A/B test in our copy guide.
